The Barcelona Zettascale Lab (BZL) has been prominently featured in two major dissemination events in recent weeks, reinforcing its commitment to developing the next generation of supercomputing and fostering technological sovereignty in Europe.
Talk on HPC Architectures at CESGA
On July 7th, Miquel Moretó, a principal investigator of the BZL project and Manager of the High-Performance Computer Architecture group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), delivered the talk “Designing HPC Architectures at the BSC.” The event was held at the headquarters of the Galicia Supercomputing Centre (CESGA) and was also streamed online.
Moretó reviewed key milestones in the history of High-Performance Computing (HPC) at the BSC, mentioning predecessor projects such as Mont-Blanc, EPI, and DRAC. He also discussed the current challenges in advancing towards HPC and Artificial Intelligence systems based on technology developed entirely in Europe, a core mission of the BZL project.
This talk was part of an intensive week at the “Green Algorithms and Chips for Artificial Intelligence” Summer School at the University of Santiago de Compostela (CiTIUS), where Miquel Moretó was also a speaker.
Presentation of the Spanish Open Hardware Alliance (SOHA) at SARTECO
In late June, Miquel Moretó also represented the research community at the Sarteco 2025 Conference in Seville, where he gave the talk “Spanish Open Hardware Alliance (SOHA) and Other Updates.”
