BZL brings engineering closer to the classroom to inspire secondary school students

On March 26, Narcís Rodas, a researcher from the BZL project, participated in an event held at the Manyanet de Sant Andreu school in Barcelona, where former students shared their academic and professional journeys with secondary school students.

These types of initiatives aim to bring young people closer to different career paths available to them and the options they can pursue after completing compulsory education, showing in a practical way how it is possible to specialize in different fields.

During his talk, Narcís Rodas explained his educational background, which includes a degree in Computer Engineering and a master’s degree in Advanced Telecommunication Technologies, as well as the motivations that led him choose this specialization. He also presented his current work at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) within the framework of the Barcelona Zettascale Lab, where he works on the RTL design and programming of the RISC-V Sargantana processor. In addition, he reviewed other projects he has been involved in throughout his career at the BSC, such as tapeouts, DVINO, Sargantana, Kamaleon, and CincoRanch.

In total, fifteen alumni took part in the event, which was organized in three sessions consisting of talks of up to 15 minutes followed by a Q&A segment. The students who attended Narcís’s session showed particular interest in his experience, asking a range of questions about his education and his day-to-day professional life.

These kinds of activities are especially valuable at a stage when students must make key decisions about their academic and professional futures. Hearing real and relatable experiences not only helps them discover new opportunities but also reinforces their own interests and aspirations.
